Play "Marriage"

About the event

"Marriage" by Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol, interpreted by director Dmitry Akimov, is a dialogue between eras: the 19th-century classic meets modern theatrical language.

The play, which at first glance seems like a domestic comedy, reveals the deep contradictions of human nature — the fear of responsibility and the absurdity of social rituals.

At the center is the figure of the official Podkolesin, who faces the question of "to marry or not to marry" — and this becomes a real moral catastrophe for him. Yes, just like Hamlet, only with a St. Petersburg flair and Gogol’s humor.

Special attention in this play is given to the costumes. They do not just recreate the era, but become an expressive means of portraying character: the bride's dress is not just an outfit, but a symbol of her dreams; the grooms' uniforms are a caricature of bureaucratic pomposity; the matchmaker's costume is a whirlwind of energy and cunning.

What else awaits the audience in "Marriage" from the "Masterovye" theater:

- witty play with the classics;

- bright, memorable characters (a "sweetheart" bride, hapless grooms, a virtuoso matchmaker);

- an unexpected ending;

- the opportunity to see how Gogol's irony remains relevant centuries later.
