The play by the M. Shketan Mari National Drama Theatre is based on Mikhail Bulgakov's short stories "A Young Doctor's Notebook", which are among the young author's first major works.
The audience is immersed in the atmosphere of a provincial hospital of the early 20th century, witnesses the everyday hardships of village life, and feels the full weight of the responsibility borne by a young doctor who, for the first time, is confronted face to face with illness and death.
Every day in this remote area brings new challenges. One has to overcome both fears and doubts about the choice of profession. Yet, the Hippocratic Oath is binding, and medical duty dictates that one must fight even in the most hopeless situations. Each victory in curing a patient is, first and foremost, the doctor's victory over themselves.
