On June 21, at the House of Peoples' Friendship "Rodnik", a master class on Mari embroidery will be held for members of the folk Mari ensemble "Mariy Sem" at 18:00.
The ancient art of Mari embroidery is not just a fabric decoration, but a coded message from ancestors, an embodiment of the Mari people's worldview and philosophy.
Participants will learn about the history and symbolism of traditional Mari embroidery, discover the meaning of geometric, floral, and zoomorphic ornaments — rhombuses, crosses, wavy branches with leaves, and other motifs; study the significance of the color palette: deep red as a symbol of life and energy, black — a sign of connection with the earth, white — purity and spirituality; master basic embroidery techniques characteristic of Mari needlework: slanted stitch, counted satin stitch, and outline stitch — and understand why the embroidery is performed from the reverse side, maintaining the clarity of the pattern on the front side; examine samples of national clothing and learn how the ornament reflects age, social status, and the purpose of the item; create their own piece of embroidery with a traditional ornament — it can become an amulet or a decorative element; touch upon the traditions of passing on craftsmanship: from old-fashioned women's gatherings with sewing and songs to modern practices of preserving cultural heritage.
