Meeting "I would be glad to serve, but it is sickening to fawn"

About the event

2025 marks not only the 230th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Sergeyevich Griboyedov, but also 200 years since the first publication of his immortal comedy in verse "Woe from Wit". This outstanding play sounds fresh and relevant, accurately reflecting all the pain points of its time, as if it were written only yesterday, and not two centuries ago.

Library staff will talk about the life and work of Griboyedov, about the diverse aspects of his biography, which is full of tragedies and secrets that served as inspiration for many of his works. The presentation will introduce readers to his books.

Getting to know the writer will be complemented by excerpts from film adaptations of his works, which will allow for a deeper appreciation of the ups and downs of his talent as a poet and playwright. The event will be decorated with musical accompaniment characteristic of that time, immersing guests in the realities of the era.

The event is held by appointment. Phone: +7 (919) 644-57-29.
